A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Battle Ground Baptist Church, 1004 N. 6th Ave., for Joseph "Joe" P. Mazzoncini, who died of a brain tumor Friday, December 7, in his Battle Ground home. He was 39.
Mr. Mazzoncini was the athletic and activities director at Prairie High School. He had lived in the area for 17 years. He was born December 12, 1950, in Tacoma. He received his master's degree from Seattle Pacific University.
He served as deacon and chairman of the Deacon Board at the Battle Ground Baptist Church, he was also associated with the Washington Secondary School Principal Association, the Battle Ground Education Association and numerous other organizations.
Survivors include his widow Glenna of Battle Ground; his parents, William and Leona Mazzoncini of Tacoma; three sons, Joseph, Jr., Zachary, and Matthew, all of Battle Ground; three brothers, Gary of Lillywaup, Wash., Steve of Port Angeles, Wash., and Scott of Tacoma; a sister, Pam Herdford of Battle Ground; and two grandmothers, Atona Leonard of Sequim, Wash., and Peggy Mazzoncini of Tacoma.
A private burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery. The casket will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Layne's Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to either the Koret Family House, 50 Irving St., San Francisco, Calif., or to the Battle Ground Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of Layne's Funeral Home.
