Walter "Wally" J. Sarkinen, a Prairie High School freshman, died Tuesday, October 9, 1984 when the tractor he was driving overturned while towing a log. He was 14.
A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday [October 13, 1984] at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Brush Prairie with Russell Kysar and Dale Schlecht officiating.
He was born July 31, 1970, in Vancouver, and was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
"He was an outdoors person. He really enjoyed hunting and fishing," his mother, Patricia Sarkinen said.
Wally was survived by his parents, Robert and Patricia Sarkinen of Hockinson; brothers Larry, Kent, Jack and Kurt Sarkinen, all of Hockinson; sisters Kay, Connie and Karen Sarkinen, all of Hockinson; and his grandparents, Walter and Alice Ek, and Aune Sarkinen, all of Battle Ground.
Burial will be in the Elim Cemetary.
Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.
